Kumon Sticker Science Review

Timberdoodle is a homeschool curriculum company we love very much.
Sometimes they give us products to review, and this is one of them. All reviews are 100% my opinion and completely honest!

I love connecting the dots between Montessori materials and other mainstream curriculums. Read on to see how the Kumon Sticker Science book relates to hands-on traditional Montessori activities!

Kumon Sticker Activity Books are gorgeous, brightly-colored and engaging. Today we got our hands on some fun Science work.

First Impressions

My first impression was wow this book covers a wide range of topics: there’s 52 pages of astronomy, biology, zoology, earth science and more.

Frankly however, I thought this book might be too easy for my youngest. He’s five and a bright kid (if I say so myself). How deep could any of these subjects get if they only span a few pages?

Now, I have been a mom for nearly ten years, so really there is no excuse for me underestimating the power of stickers, mazes and other puzzles to a child.

Because clearly, I had.

While its true that the book introduces many science topics, it also gives two – three focal statements per page to help children hone in on large concepts. These points are perfect for a preschooler, but you really could expand on each topic to make it fit most ages. There are 52 pages of work that would serve well as jumping off points for science activities for mixed ages. Perfect for families or co-ops — especially at it’s very affordable price-point. What’s more is that all of these activities help with fine motor. I thought for sure the coloring page would be too simple, and yet I was so pleased to see Mike working hard to stay inside the shapes and practicing a correct pencil grip.

I’m excited to use this book with Mike. Our thematic units in science for all three of my elementary-aged kids this year cover geology, astronomy and biology

There are tons of pages to use either as a starting point for more advanced work or review at the end of a unit — or as a simple way to quickly introduce a broad range of topics.

Here are two traditional Montessori activities that had us busy: living vs not living and botany work.

Here we are using the book to draw some parallels with the traditional Montessori botany puzzles.

When it was all said and done, storing away the book in our new work binder was a piece of cake.

I look forward to using this book again.

We had a lot of fun with Kumon Sticker Science Activity Book and recommend it with flying colors. You can pick it up through Timberdoodle’s site either on its own or as part of a complete curriculum package.

We will be reviewing Timberdoodle’s 2nd grade kit soon. Stay tuned.
