Found: Psalm 23 a Picture Book Review

Hello, hello. It’s been a while since I popped by for an update. Hope Black Friday has been treating you well. We have a slew of new materials on the way; I cannot wait to share all about them in the next week. In the meantime though, I want to tell you about a fantastic board book that has quickly become my son’s favorite bedtime read. If you are familiar with Psalm 23, possibly the most well-known biblical psalm, this children’s book, Found: Psalm 23, is a beautiful echo of that scripture. I recommend it wholeheartedly for all the little loves in your life. Timberdoodle was kind enough to provide this book for review, and they are a wonderful family-based homeschool company, so definitely check them out.

What I really enjoy about Found: Psalm 23, by Sally Lloyd-Jones, is the child-friendly language to paraphrase the 23rd Biblical Psalm. The artwork by Jago is equal parts soothing and captivating. The illustrations are realistic, bright and beautiful. Both the little lamb and shepherd’s face depict clear emotion based on the narrative.

As a Montessorian trained in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, where Psalm 23 serves an integral role, I can see this book as a perfect complement to any Christian shelf work for the young child. It’d fit in a primary level 1 RE or home where the subtle mystery of who the Good Shepherd is waiting to unfold for the child — or of course where the story is already a loved favorite.

Even when the little lamb is lost and in harm’s way, my son is confident the Good Shepherd will be there to collect him. Our William at two-and-a-half gasps and sighs and cheers whenever we read about the little lost sheep and his sweet savior.

I definitely recommend this book and am so thankful to share it with my children. If you’re interested in picking up a copy, check out the one and only Timberdoodle Co here.
