Creative Fun Making Thinking Putty

Timberdoodle sent us a Crazy Aaron’s Mixed By Me “Glow” Thinking Putty kit to review. We have actually reviewed a similar set in the past, so I was happy to get our hands on this one.

To summarize my personal stance on messy activities, I am typically a fan. You will find us painting our windows and using glitter with reckless abandon. However in the past I’ve reviewed some doughy mediums not as favorably as the Thinking Putty sets, for when the goop, slime, putty, clay or playdough ends up in my carpet or staining clothes, I tend to get annoyed.

So messes = ok if they clean up really easily.

The last time we played with this set, we used it in a hospital setting. No one stained anything.

Thinking Putty is a uniquely captivating way to entertain kids, employ their creativity — and inventing your own mixtures — that’s such a fun bonus.

The set comes with instructions and recipes. We followed a few, but then the kids let loose and made all sorts of colors and combos…

Even glow in the dark putty! Our favorite showstopper. Cue the photodump:

I will say, this time, a beloved pair of panda leggings got mixed up with our Mixed By Me putty creation when someone thought to hide putty in a dresser. Meh. I had to toss them. So sadness. But otherwise this putty is not crumbly, not overly messy, bounces high, glows in the dark, sparkles, shimmers and probably many other adjectives too.

So I do recommend this set since it’s wildly fun. For the amount of pleasure and creativity it cultivated in my children, for the great fine motor strengthening, and the open-ended possibilities — away from screens no less — this material is perfect in any homeschool environment. Would also make a super Easter basket addition!
