Adventures of Robin Hood Graphic Novel for 3rd Grade

Before we got our hands on The Adventures of Robin Hood (as retold by Russell Punter and illustrated by Matteo Pincelli) from Timberdoodle to review, I had never pursued graphic readers for my kids.

Now we are a house obsessed with them. In a matter of months.

So let this be your fair warning: this story — with its captivating plotline and bright illustrations — might push you further into the world of comic book stories and graphic novels. And it just might be a revelation.

My girls both really struggle with dyslexia. They struggle to stay at grade-level with reading; practicing it can feel akin to pulling teeth. Or worse because at least you get somewhat sedated for dental work.

Luckily, this roughly 100-paged book is full of gorgeous illustrations that help guide the story for readers who need a little extra pizzazz in their lives. Who doesn’t need a little extra pizzazz right?

So it follows, extra pizzazz equals an extra enjoyable foray into reading time for all involved. Instead of fighting me over having to read, the girls actually argue each other over who gets to read the cool comics (do you see why we ventured out into more graphic novels?).

My six-year-old son who (thankfully) isn’t dyslexic, and is actually a little advanced in reading, also really enjoyed this story. It’s got great action, and I love how it familiarizes all the kids with the classic tale in such an accessible way.

Even my toddler loved plopping down on the beanbag to follow along with the pictures.

Actually my toddler loves being the center of attention at all times — in full disclosure.

BEST BROS 4EVER

So yeah — we recommend this one!

The Adventures of Robin Hood is part of Timberdoodle’s way awesome 3rd grade kit, and I suspect it would be a great quick read for older kids. It’s certainly wonderful for any struggling readers. My 1st grader also thought it was super cool. My toddler liked the horses. That means Mom too is a fan. All in all, it’d make a great gift for a cool kid in your life and an excellent addition to your curriculum / reading program.
